Locum Tenens

Information for Practices & Health Facilities
You may request locum tenens coverage for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and nurse midwives. Your site is eligible to participate in the NH Recruitment Center's Locum Tenens service if your site:
- Is a primary care practice, which includes family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics and obstetrics.
- Provides care for a broad spectrum of patients and accepts Medicare, Medicaid and the uninsured.

Please keep in mind that it is the responsibility of the site to develop an agreement with the locum tenens candidate, check the candidate's references, coordinate the candidate's hospital credentialing (if appropriate), monitor the candidate's performance, and provide orientation for the candidate.

Information for Health Professionals
If you're not ready to commit to one location or if you enjoy the flexibility of taking short-term assignments, you may want to register with our statewide locum tenens service.
For those of you who settle permanently in New Hampshire, you'll be pleased to learn that this service is available to help you arrange time off for vacations, continuing education opportunities, and personal or family business.
To be considered for a locum tenens opportunity, you must meet the applicable criteria:
- Physicians must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in a primary care discipline (not a 1-, 2- or 3-year resident).
- Physicians must hold a current locum tenens or permanent license to practice medicine in New Hampshire or meet the requirements for New Hampshire licensure.
- Nurse practitioners, physician assistants and midwives must hold a current license to practice in New Hampshire in a primary care specialty.
- A candidate's specialty must match the specialty of the provider whom they will replace. (Special circumstances may be considered.)
- A candidate will have satisfactorily completed the NH Recruitment Center's application form for locum tenens.
